Let us Encourage One Another

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. 1 Thessalonians 5: 11

“Guys, please, watch your words!” I say to my sons almost on a daily basis. Unfortunately, they are in the habit of constantly hitting each other with harsh words that have the purpose to tear down. My husband and I keep trying to teach them the power of words and how they should use them to edify not to destroy, especially each other since they are brothers. The task is arduous and we have not made much progress, but we persevere. They are still very young and we hope that repetition burns the admonitions into their brains.

Thinking about my sons’ need to learn how to speak to each other in love makes me think of the need for adults to do the same. The Apostle Paul gave this command to the people of the young church of Thessalonica as a way to help them promote their growth as Christians. This command, however, also speaks to us today.

The privilege of having been called to write for the Kingdom of God is a formidable task. We need to give and receive encouragement for the road could leave us feeling weary at times. The stress of striving for goodness may leave us drained and in need of something to build us up. Hanging on to the Spirit of Truth, our Holy Helper and Guide is crucial. Hanging on to one another is too.

I encourage you as a Christian Blogger today, to continue to fulfill your God-given mission to spread His Word to your sphere of influence and beyond. At the same time, I encourage you to offer words that build up to those who walk alongside you on this cyber-road. Let us build each other up, “as in fact” we are doing. I pray that my sons will soon learn the value of a kind word spoken in love with the purpose of building each other up. (I won’t hold my breath waiting for it, though) In the meantime, I encourage you, my fellow Christian blogger to persevere in your mission filled with the inspiration coming to you directly from the Holy Spirit for the honor and glory of the One and Only, Christ our Lord.
