My Lord and My God

A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” Then he said to Thomas “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.” Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!” John 20: 26-28

I absolutely love this passage of Scripture. I love everything about it; but today the section that grabs me in a most striking way is where it says, “Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” This passage touches me in a very special way today as I meditate on the work that the Lord has given to me as a Christian blogger. It touches me deeply because so many times, as feelings of self-doubt and a sense of inadequacy overcome me, and as my spirit deflates I sense the doors of my heart shutting tightly.

Today, however, as I read this passage the whispering of the Holy Spirit gently reminds me, “Locked doors can’t stop Your Lord.” Regardless of my feelings and emotions, He comes into my heart to give me peace. Regardless how the enemy manipulates my insecurities, Christ hold on me is as real as the scars on his hands and side. And He tells me, “reach out your hand…stop doubting and believe!”

Thank you Lord for your irresistible grace that draws us to You every time we go adrift. Thank You for Your Word that brings me sustenance when I am empty and strength when I am weak. Thank You for Your loving presence that overpowers locks and steel doors. Nothing can separate me from You, for you are My Lord and My God!
